We’re lamenting the loss of many of our favourite Wirral haunts. Small businesses who we wish we could have visited this weekend, because it is after all, uncharacteristically sunny and would have been a marvellous day for a beer on the seafront or a coffee outside.
Fortunately, businesses around these parts are steadfast and resilient. Many have found ways to ensure we can still get hold of our favourite products in an extremely safe and government policy compliant way.
Below are just some of the businesses we follow on Instagram who have used digital strategy to fight the downturn. Make sure you head over and show your support for small businesses by following and interacting with their social media.

Rise and Grind – Afternoon Tea Deliveries
Humans. We’re all the same; we get a bit bored and we just have to eat. Cake just makes the world a better place, so forget your troubles and embrace the fact that afternoon tea delivered to your door is a thing now.
Wirral institution Rise and Grind, a beautiful little coffee shop and all-day kitchen, has started taking delivery orders over social media. It’s not just afternoon tea that’s on offer either, try their Triple Decker Club Sandwich or the Vegan BLT. It makes staying at home not so bad at all.
Wallasey Food Fair – Fruit and Veg Boxes
We’ve been told from the offset we need to eat more local, seasonal produce. It’s better for the environment, and much more delicious! Nowadays, that’s even more important than ever before; with trade routes in crisis and supermarket shelves empty, the only upside of this is that we might learn to support local businesses a bit more!
Wallasey Food Fair is an artisan food market that would usually run every 1st Sunday of the month. Now that gatherings are cancelled, Wallasey Food Fair made a great decision to run fruit and veg box deliveries via their social media. Who wouldn’t want perfect produce delivered to their door instead of standing in a socially-isolated queue on their own just to get into the supermarket.
Desserts By Dre – Wirral Delivery
There’s desserts, and then there’s Desserts By Dre, who produce sweet treats that will leave you in a permanent state of awe. This little artisan bakery is based in Liverpool, but now due to the lockdown, we on the Wirral can get home delivery. Silver linings eh? The Colour Bar – Don’t Touch Up Your Roots Campaign
You may have already noticed, but salons everywhere are currently asking customers to make sure they don’t take their usual beauty treatments into their own hands. We’ve spotted brow technicians begging customers not to pluck their own brows, nail technicians hoping their customers won’t resort to at-home gel kits, and of course, haridressers, asking their clients not to use at-home box dyes.
Why? Because many of these at-home treatments instantly undo all the hard work your professional beautician or hairdresser has put into getting you into tip-top condition!
The Colour Bar, based on the Wirral, has launched a great campaign called ‘Show Us Ya Roots!’ where in exchange for tagging the salon’s ‘gram in a photo of your roots, you could win a free touch-up. Who’s going to see you in lockdown anyway? May as well!
Blooming Skull Coffee – Delivery Days
You’ll never be without cake in a crisis if these Wirral businesses have anything to do with it. Blooming Skull coffee is another local coffee shop we’d hate to lose, so make sure you get over to their social media and find out when their next delivery day is.
With treats available such as blondies, lotus banana bread and selection boxes, you need to get ordering, or lament later when you see all the amazing Instagram shots from those who did take advantage.
Squidges Bakery – #TogetherWeSquidge
You may have heard of Squidges bakery as they ship nationwide, but did you know they’re actually based on the Wirral? Clearly we’re the home of baking magic.
In the face of the lockdown, Squidges have launched a campaign called #TogetherWeSquidge, to get involved simply use the hashtag to share your recent baking project and you could win £40 of vouchers to spend at Squidges.
We’ve never seen so many people baking, but how can we be surprised? It’s in our blood as Brits to ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ and bake a Victoria sponge.
